Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about creating, giving and using a Magic Photo — from how the tap works to videos, privacy, delivery and support.

About The Magic Frame

What is The Magic Frame?

The Magic Frame turns a photograph into a memory you can return to with a tap. We print your chosen photograph as a personalised 7 × 5 inch Magic Photo and add hidden NFC technology. Tap it with a compatible phone and your private memory page opens with your title, personal message and video.

What do I receive?

You receive one personalised 7 × 5 inch Magic Photo with the NFC connection built into it. Your digital memory includes your title, personal message and one video.

Is the picture frame included?

No. Your order includes the personalised Magic Photo, not the physical picture frame. This means you can choose a frame that suits your home, style or the person receiving it.

How does a photograph play a video?

The video isn't stored inside the photograph itself. Hidden NFC technology connects your Magic Photo to its hosted memory page. When a compatible smartphone taps the Magic Photo, the phone opens that page in its browser, where the message and video can be viewed.

Do I need an app?

No. There is no Magic Frame app to download. The recipient taps the Magic Photo with a compatible NFC-enabled smartphone and the memory opens in their browser.

Phones, NFC and picture frames

Which phones work with a Magic Photo?

Most modern NFC-enabled smartphones can read a Magic Photo. The exact NFC position varies between phone models, so occasionally you may need to move the phone slightly over the photograph to find the best tap position.

What is NFC?

NFC stands for Near Field Communication. It's the short-range technology used by many smartphones for things such as contactless interactions. The Magic Photo uses NFC to direct a compatible phone to the memory connected to that photograph.

Can a picture frame affect the NFC?

Most normal photo frames should work well. Very thick glass, acrylic, additional layers or some metal-backed frames can reduce the NFC range. If a tap doesn't register immediately, try moving the phone slightly or testing the Magic Photo outside the frame.

Photos and videos

What video can I upload?

Videos should be in MP4 format and no larger than 50 MB.

What if my video is too large?

Try trimming unnecessary sections or exporting the video at 1080p with a smaller file size before uploading.

Can I add music to my video?

Yes, but if you add music or other third-party content, make sure you have the right or permission to use it.

What if my photograph is low quality?

Your Magic Photo can only reproduce the quality of the image you upload. Blurred, very small, heavily compressed or low-resolution images may appear softer when printed. Cropping or enlarging an image can also reduce visible detail.

Privacy and your memory

Who can see my memory?

Your individual memory page is excluded from search-engine indexing. However, anyone who has access to its private link can potentially view it, so don't share the link with anyone you don't want to see the memory.

How long will my Magic Photo memory be available?

Your memory is intended to remain available while The Magic Frame service operates. We do not describe the service as guaranteed lifetime hosting.

Can I remove my memory later?

Yes. Contact support@themagicframe.co if you want us to remove your hosted memory, subject to any information we may need to retain for legal or operational reasons.

Ordering, quality and delivery

How is my Magic Photo checked?

Each order is checked by hand so the correct photograph, memory and NFC tag are matched together. The NFC connection and recipient memory are tested before dispatch.

Can I cancel or change my order?

Because each Magic Photo is personalised, the usual change-of-mind cancellation right does not normally apply. If you need to change or cancel an order, contact us as soon as possible. If production has not yet begun, we will always try to help where we can. Your statutory rights are unaffected.

What if my Magic Photo is faulty or damaged?

Contact us at support@themagicframe.co. We may first help you check the NFC positioning or frame setup. If the product is genuinely faulty or damaged, we will provide an appropriate remedy in line with your statutory rights.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery options and estimated times are shown at checkout. For more information, see our Shipping Policy.

Digital Moments

What if I want to send something now instead of ordering a Magic Photo?

You can send a Digital Moment for free. Add a video and personal message, choose a style and share it digitally with someone special. There's no physical Magic Photo to wait for, so it's useful when you want to send something personal straight away.

Is a Digital Moment free?

Yes. You can create and send a Digital Moment free.
